Realities of Homelessness
10 years ago, 90% of the families we serve were situationally homeless. Today, over 80% experience generational poverty.
Situational poverty: Often caused by a sudden crisis or single event, like a job loss, divorce, medical crisis or domestic violence. These families generally know how to maintain self-sufficiency.
Generational Poverty: Families in which a parent or parents lived in poverty as a child. These families often have not been exposed to the basic life skills man of us take for granted; they have not experienced self-sufficiency and often can’t picture a life of independence.
